Macros: How protein can helpyou drop body fat

Macros (macronutrients) are the nutrients we consume in large quantities and are split into three main groups: CARBOHYDRATES, FATS AND….PROTEIN.

Let’s talk about protein – as its seems like it’s all anyone in nutrition talks about – and not without good reason!

“So – why is it so great?”
This macronutrient forms the building blocks of all tissues in your body so, I’d say it was pretty important!

“Yeah, OK, fair enough…but why is it key to fat loss and me getting lean?”
Prioritising protein can be one of your best tools to drop body fat / weight for the following reasons:

  • Protein stimulates muscle protein synthesis – this will help you build muscle effectively which is great for health and for a leaner physique
  • It’s filling..! Protein is the most satiating macronutrient – which means it can be handy for those trying to lose fat as it keeps hunger at bay when eating in a calorie deficit
  • Fun fact: It has the highest thermic effect of all macronutrients – basically, this means that you use up more calories digesting it than other macros (every little helps, I guess!)
